Press release: 6th June 2019
The African Network on International Criminal Justice welcomes the suspension of Sudan by the African Union from participating in any of its activities, this decision is a step in the right direction and a reflection that Africa is indeed sympathetic to the people’s wellbeing and impunity or insubordination will not be tolerated.
The massacre of innocent Sudanese citizens by the Transnational Military Council (TMC) is unnecessary and a flagrant disregard of the right to life and every principle that actuates the conduct of a civilized nation. It is high time strong measures be put in place to curb these violence.
While we commend the AU for this development, we stand in solidarity with the people of Sudan and call on the AU, the UN and other international civil society organizations’ to send peace keeping missions to Sudan until the elections are done. The TMC cannot continue to do whatever they like. Tyranny should be totally eliminated in Sudan.
Signed
Africa Network on International Criminal Justice.
